DIY Face Masks at Home

DIY Face Masks | WholeLife Pharmacy & Healthfoods

It’s always such a treat when your purchase something special for yourself, but there’s really no better feeling than making something from scratch! Conscious beauty is making waves worldwide, with calls for brands and manufacturers to reconsider how the production of their products affect our planet’s health and our health.

While there are plenty of amazing brands ranged at WholeLife that are already leading the way when it comes to conscious, clean beauty products, a bit of at home DIY is always fun!

We’ve researched five easy face masks you can make at home to be the star of your next pamper night. You could even make a larger batch to keep in the fridge for a few days, or to give as a gift. We recommend upcycling old jars to use as storage containers.

All ingredients (except the fresh fruits) can be found at WholeLife and remember to always patch test these face masks on your neck or arm to watch for irritation before using on your face.

Turmeric & Manuka Honey

Use for: Brightening complexion and calming breakouts or acne.

Mix both ingredients well until a paste has formed. You may need to microwave the honey for a few seconds if it’s too solid, but make sure to temperature check the honey on the back of your hand before applying to your face. This one is best done at night, incase any residual turmeric causes discolouration on fairer complexions.

Avocado, Rolled Oats & Manuka Honey

Use for: Hydrating and calming dry, irritated skin

Quickly blitz the oats until they are roughly blended. You don’t want a flour, but you don’t want it to be too chunky either. Mix all ingredients until well combined. Leave on for 5-10 minutes before washing off with warm water. You can gently scrub the mask into your skin when washing off for a mild exfoliation.

TIP: Keep your avocado in the fridge for a cooling effect on your face.

Aloe Vera & Chamomile

Use for: Soothing irritated or sunburnt skin

Brew a cup of chamomile tea using 2 tea bags. Let it cool completely before adding 1 tbsp of aloe vera. Adjust this amount depending on consistency, although this recipe will be naturally more liquid and runny than the others. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Bentonite Clay, Matcha & Apple Cider Vinegar

Use for: Ageing skin

Mix all ingredients until well combined. You can leave out the Apple Cider Vinegar if you have sensitive skin, just add ¼ tsp more water. Leave on until the clay has dried and wash off with warm water. Make sure to moisturise afterwards as clay can be drying.

Bentonite Clay, Tea Tree Oil & Apple Cider Vinegar

Use for: Acne prone skin

Mix all ingredients until combined. Add Rosehip oil for extra nourishment if your skin is on the drier side. Leave on until the clay has dried and wash off with warm water. Make sure to moisturise afterwards as clay can be drying.

TIP: Use a flat foundation brush to evenly apply your DIY face masks.
