World Health Day – Easy Ways to Eat More Whole Foods

Happy World Health Day! Each year the World Health Organisation draws attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. This year marks WHO’s 75th annual celebration which brings the opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today and tomorrow.

We are huge advocates of healthy living at WholeLife and we understand the importance of taking action in tackling health challenges. Whether it be visiting our pharmacists when you are feeling “a little skew-wiff” or standing in the WholeLife’s health food aisle googling “Where does Paprika come from?” (Hint, Paprika is actually just dried and crushed Capsicum straight out of Mexico… anyone else think there was a little paprika tree somewhere out here?) we are always finding ways to improve our health at WholeLife.

In honour of World Health Day, we are bringing you 6 easy ways to include more whole foods into your diet. It is extremely important (and we cannot stress this enough) to be eating an abundance of whole foods and a variety of them too. Why are whole foods important? Whole foods should be your go-to instead of processed foods when it comes to getting all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals you need to live a healthy life.

Want to add more whole foods into your diet but not sure how? Here are easy ways to add whole foods into your diet.

Add to your Smoothie Bowls, Toast, Yoghurt, and Cereal:

Hemp seeds – We love the Hemp Seed Hulled 175g in the WholeLife Healthfoods range.

Chia seeds – Chia seeds are a great source of fibre which is great for feeling fuller for longer.

Activated Walnuts – A brand to look out for at Wholelife is 2DIE4  Activated Organic Walnuts which are activated with whey meaning that they have a sweeter than usual taste, packed full of protein, vitamins and minerals.

Flax Seed Oil – We love the Melrose Flaxseed Oil 500ml which is amazing for toast and yoghurt dishes, cold-pressed from Australian-grown Australian flaxseeds, this guy has a heap-load of omega-3 fatty acids which can minimise the absorption of cholesterol in the diet and nourish the skin and hair from within.

 Add to your Salads:

Legumes (black beans, chickpeas, kidney beans) – make sure you are buying organic with these ones to avoid added alts, fillers and preservatives, some of our favourite organic brands are Ceres Organic and Absolute Organic.

Kimchi – Kimchi is a fermented food which makes it an excellent probiotic increasing healthy digestion probiotics.

Sauerkraut – Similarly, sauerkraut is fermented raw cabbage and is super high in probiotics which is great for your digestion and overall gut health.

Alfalfa Sprouts – Our favourites are the Untamed Health organically Grown Sprouting Seeds. You can harvest your own delicious sprouts in only a few days with the Untamed Super Sprouter Germinator.

Anything from The Extraordinary Pimp My Salad Range – we love the Cashew Parmesan and the Hemp Parmesan for vegan cheese substitutes, both of which are nutritionally dense.

 Add to your Smoothies:

Berries – We have a huge range of frozen blueberries, strawberries, and mixed berries in our freezer section in store.

Avocado – healthy fats! Chop up and freeze avocado cubes to add to your smoothie for extra smoothness (a game changer).

Chia Seeds – We have so many options at WholeLife! If you are on a budget then go for the WholeLife Healthfoods Chia Seeds 250g which are a fraction of the price and just as good as quality as other favourite brands such as the Grass Roots Organic Chia Seeds 250g.

Nut Butters (peanut butter, almond butter) – Our go-to is the new Planut Peanut Butter Smooth 250g (The squeezy feature on this product is life changing).

Spinach – Contrary to belief, this won’t make much of a taste difference to your smoothie, however it will change the colour.

 Add to your coffee:

Superfeast Masons Mushrooms 100g – This powder is a super blend of medicinal mushrooms hand-picked to support immunity, gut health, hormonal function and to quieten the nervous system. Check out our Mushroom Cacao Tonic with Masons Mushrooms complete recipe for ideas on how to mix up this bad boy.

Life Cykel Lions Mane Extract 120ml – Adding a couple of drops of this Lion’s Mane extract to your morning bullet coffee may help to improve concentration, focus and cognitive function. Formulated with Australian sourced ingredients such as Kakadu plum which has loads of Vitamin C (which is vital for optimum health).
