Urinary tract infection
Urinary tract infections (UTI) are common, particularly in women, with about 50% of women experiencing one in their lifetime versus about 5% of men. 1 There are different types of UTI, depending on which part of the urinary tract becomes infected. Cystitis is the most common and impacts the lining of the bladder so that it becomes raw and
swollen.(1)
A bacteria called Escherichia Coli (E. coli) that normally lives in the bowel can travel to the bladder through the urethra, which is the tube that empties urine from the bladder. 2 Once inside the bladder, the bacteria multiply quickly to cause infection.
