The Many Uses of Coconut

The many uses of coconuts:

1.Water

Coconut water is found in the centre of a young, green coconut. Delicious, refreshing and low in sugar. Coconut water is packed full of natural electrolytes, a good source of potassium and great for rehydrating the body. You could say that coconut water is the perfect healthy alternative to sports drinks.

2.Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin coconut oil is made from the fresh meat/flesh of the coconut. Coconut oil can be used in cooking, baking, frying and adding to smoothies. It can provide great flavour in cooking and unlike other oils, is solid at room temperature so is a handy ingredient when making ‘raw’ or vegan slices or treats. You can also use coconut oil as a moisturiser, massage oil, hair mask or for oil pulling. To get the most out of your coconut oil, be sure to choose organic virgin coconut oil rather than refined versions.

3.Cleaning

The husk of the coconut can be used to make cleaning products including kitchen scourers and scrubbers. Because these products are made from natural coconut husk fibres, they are biodegradable, compostable and non-toxic.

4.Ice cream

Coconut ice cream uses coconut milk instead of regular dairy milk or cream. It’s Vegan friendly, creamy and delicious! Coconut ice cream is a perfect alternative for vegans and for those who are dairy intolerant.

5.Yoghurt

Coconut yoghurt is made from the milk of coconuts which is squeezed from the flesh of coconuts. At WholeLife we also sell a range of delicious coconut yoghurts with added probiotics so you won’t miss out on any of the regular benefits of a good yoghurt. The perfect alternative for vegans and those who can’t eat dairy products.

6.Flour

Coconut flour is a soft, naturally gluten-free flour made from dried coconut flesh, which is a natural by-product from coconut milk production. Once the coconut flesh has been used for milk production, it is dried at a low temperature and grinded into a soft, fine powder. Its benefits include being relatively low in carbohydrates whilst being a good source of protein and fibre.

7.Soap

Soap can be made from coconut oil through the saponification process, which converts the coconut oil to coconut soap and naturally occurring glycerine is retained in the soap. Glycerine in the perfect natural emollient, which softens and soothes the skin.

8.Sugar

Coconut sugar is an alternative to regular sugar, derived from the coconut palm sap. Coconut sugar has a similar colour and flavour to a dark brown sugar, with hints of caramel and rich toffee-like flavour.
