Compounding
Why is compounding important?
Just as no two people are the same, their response to medication may not be the same either! Compounding
is when a pharmacist mixes or combines ingredients to make a medication. This allows pharmacists to tailor a
medication to a customer’s individual needs. All pharmacists can do simple compounding, but complex or speciality
compounding generally requires additional training.
You may require this service when:
- there are limited strengths of commercially available medication, and they don’t suit your needs
- the medication is not available due to a manufacturer shortage or recall
- you can’t tolerate the format, size or taste of your prescribed medication. Children in particular can be fussy,
making it difficult for parents to administer the medication - you have an allergy to an ingredient in commercially produced medication
Please note… Services vary from store to store, so contact your local WholeLife Pharmacy & Healthfoods to see if
they offer a compounding service! Find your store’s contact details here.
