What are terpenes?
If you’ve never heard of Terpene blends before and their therapeutic properties, you’re not alone. Terpenes are the aromatic compounds found in many plants, which essentially means they are the reason why plants and herbs have specific scents.
A combination of terpenes is why lavender, lemon, oranges and almost every other plant have a specific, recognisable fragrance.
While terpenes can be found in many different plants in nature, the cannabis plant is known to contain about 400 terpenes. It should be noted that terpenes and cannabinoids (two of the better-known cannabinoids are THC and CBD, for example) are two different compounds. Terpenes will not create any kind of ‘high’ when taken, but they are bioactive meaning that they have been proven to affect systems within the body.
How do they work?
Using scents for their therapeutic benefits is not a new concept – aromatherapy has been used for hundreds of years. However, the primary difference between aromatherapy and terpene blends here is that the terpenes have been extracted to then be ingested with Hemp Seed Oil.
Ingesting these terpenes means that they affect the endocannabinoid system in the body. Experts are still trying to fully understand the endocannabinoid system, given that it was identified only in the 1990’s almost by accident when researchers were exploring the effects of cannabinoids on the human body (hence the name endocannabinoid).
What we do know about the endocannabinoid system is that it plays a role in the regulation, or homeostasis, of a range of processes and functions that our bodies perform every day.

How do you take terpene blends?
